| He finished his music studies in piano performance at the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music where he was a scholar in piano and voice. At present he is the Head of the UST Conservatory of Music Conducting Department. He is also a faculty member at UST Conservatory of Music where he teaches piano, choral conducting and choral music subjects.
He is the founder and conductor of the internationally acclaimed UST Singers. He led the choir since 1993 in 14 international concert tours of Europe, the United States, Asia and South America and won more than 45 top prizes in the choral competitions around the world such as Tolosa, Spain; Tours, France; Llangollen, Wales, United Kingdom; Gorizia, Italy; Monster, Netherlands; Olomouc, Czech Republic; Montreux, Switzerland; Spittal, Austria; Lindenholzhausen and Miltenberg Germany among others. He also led the choir in winning the 1995 Choir of the World Grand Prize along wih 4 First Prizes in North Wales, United Kingdom and the 1998 Gran Premio Citta di Gorizia.
He was recently one of the prize winners in the choral writing contest “Mga Awiting Bayan Para sa Korong Pilipino” of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the CCP where his choral arrangement was included in newly published choral anthology book last February 2007.
He was a member of the international jury in the International Competition for Academic Choirs (IFAS) in Pardubice, Czech Republic last 2006. In July 2008 he will return to be one of the jury in the same competition. He was also a member of the international panel of judges at the First National Choral Competition for Welsh Choirs “COR CYMRU” in Wales, Unites Kingdom in 2003 televised by S4C television UK.
He was featured guest lecturer twice in Taipei, Taiwan in 2006 and last July 2007 sponsored by the Taipei Philharmonic Foundation for Arts and Education where he gave a lecture on Philippine Folk Music in the Choral Repertoire and Philippine Choral Music respectively. In 2002 he was invited to give a lecture on Philippine Choral Music in Turin, Italy sponsored by the Torino Vocal Ensemble.
In 2002 he was awarded the Best Conductor Prize at the Tonen International Choral Competition in Monster, Netherlands where the UST Singers also won the Grand Prize or Festival Choir of the Year together with 3 other first prizes. He also won the Best Interpretation Prize on the Bavarian or the Bavarian Lion Prize by the Bavarian Prime Minister for Josef Swider’s “Magnificat” at the 4th International Choral Competition in Miltenberg, Germany in 2002.
He was awarded the Outstanding Alumni of UST for Performing Arts in 2002 and was recipient of the Outstanding Artist in Music by the Dangal ng UST Awards 2001. He was also chosen as one of the 10 Outstanding Citizens of the City of Valenzuela in the field of Arts and Culture in 2000.
In 1999 he won the First Prize in the International Composition Competition in Ojai California USA for his 8-voiced “Ama Namin” which was premiered on American radio broadcast interpreted by the Ojai Camerata California.
He was awarded the Parangal ng Bayan Award for National Achievers in the field of arts and culture twice in 1999 and 1997. He was also a prize winner in the Mozart Piano Sonata Competition at UST in 1984 and his compositions in piano, art song, and solo instrument won the CCP and League of Filipino Composers competitions in 1983, 1985, and 1987.
He is a member of the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM), the Ameriacn Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and the Contemporary Accapella Society of America (CASA).
Aside from the UST Singers, he is also the conductor of the newly formed Lyceum Chamber Singers.
On August 2008, he will leave with the UST Singers and will represent the Philippines in 2 international choral festivals in Spain and France.
